With an old white jeep and a resourceful and refreshingly quiet Bedouin guide called Faraq, we headed out into the White Desert, a few hundred kilometres south-west of Cairo.
By day we wandered around what felt more like a moonscape than a landscape:
Each afternoon we made camp, and by night we cooked over an open fire and slept under the stars.
Of course, I spent much of the time running around with my camera. I particularly like the two below. The first is actually the black desert, which we drove through on the way back to Cairo. I think it looks more like Mars:
